I was unable to make it down to SXSW this year which means I’m missing the keynote presentation by Twitter ’s Evan Williams. However, according to a post just made on the Twitter blog , a new Twitter development – called “ @anywhere ” – is coming soon to a handful of leading web sites including the eBay Marketplace . Something I believe @Ev is talking about right now…  Read More →

Do you have a pen and paper handy? I’ll give you time to find them… OK, make sure the pen works. Now, click on the following media file to listen to a conversation between Randy Smythe of Buy.com & John Lawson of ColderICE.com . THE CONVERSATION Sure, they’re are some moments in the discussion that are less than positive when referencing the eBay Marketplace . But I feel that the themes and analogies given in the discussion...

An update to the eBay Announcement Board went up yesterday afternoon that I wanted to share with folks: Improvements to the process when you open an unpaid item claim manually * If a buyer doesn’t pay and you cancel the transaction, the buyer will no longer be able to pay for the item. * If you open an unpaid item case, it will be closed automatically when the buyer pays using a safe electronic payment method such as PayPal or Moneybookers. The...

Even though I am married to the true love of my life, I have to confess that I’ve actually been engaged twice in my lifetime. Obviously that fact has become irrelevant over time, however, it does mean that I had to learn and act upon the “four Cs” when buying a diamond ring, not once but twice! Believe it or not, I designed my wife’s ring myself (with obvious input from my much better half) and am still quite proud of the...

You can see my initial coverage of the “Garden by eBay” by clicking HERE . Given the opportunity to spend some time with the entire team behind the eBay Garden project, I thought it would be great to capture some candid conversations about their time together, the project they’ve been working on, and what it means for them to be working at eBay. What I got was an incredibly refreshing, candid  Read More →

eBay has teamed up with RecycleBank , the country’s premier recycling and loyalty program, to reward consumers for recycling and reusing what already exists in the world today. RecycleBank rewards people for positive green actions (currently the recycling of trash and electronics) and seeks to create a greener economy with key partners across the U.S. In just five years, the model has proven its success; on average, recycling volumes increase...

All, I’m still answering specific questions through email and comments here on Ink but in the meantime, I wanted to share a little sneak peak into what is happening behind the scenes. In addition to our usual Customer Service call center and PR efforts around news like this, we have also established two dedicated Communications rooms to allow for real-time collaboration across social media platforms and chat rooms …  Read More →

All, I was able to spend some time with Dinesh Lathi, VP of Buyer and Seller Experience at eBay, to discuss the news coming out of today’s Seller Release (eBaySR) in more detail. I did my best to anticipate some of the more challenging questions that may be on Ink reader’s minds and posed them to Dinesh (I realize you’ll have a ton more… and I’m happy to ask those too). What follows is a…  Read More →

The following was posted to the eBay Announcement Board earlier this afternoon. I wanted to share with Ink readers. Will share more as I get it. Cheers, RBH The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a consumer alert about Alli, a weight loss drug currently found on multiple websites and search engines. eBay works closely with the FDA and other agencies to keep our site and our users safe. As a precaution for our users, eBay wants all sellers...

I’ll update this post with any new information and links as they become available. On Tuesday, Jan. 12 shortly before 5 p.m., a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. According to The Red Cross, about 3 million people were affected by the quake — one-third of Haiti’s population. In the wake of the devastating quake, more than 100,000 people are feared dead with thousands of others injured or without homes....
